Vinings History

Vinings, previously known as “Crossroads” and then “Paces” is a charming town in Cobb County. Its early names derived from the initial use of the area as a meeting place for the Creek and Cherokee Indians and then after Hardy Pace, who began operating Pace’s Ferry across the Chattahoochee River in 1830. Vinings was eventually named after William H. Vining, who worked on railroad construction in the area. Located between Buckhead and Smyrna, Vinings was officially recognized as a community in 1904 after a one-lane bridge constructed across the Chattahoochee. The Vinings Historical Preservation Society was established in 1993 with the mission to preserve and maintain historical Vinings sites as well as educate the public about the history of the area.
