Brookhaven

Brookhaven, located in both Fulton County and Dekalb County, offers its residents a true sense of community. Brookhaven is one of Atlanta's most historic and affluent communities, located just miles from the city’s premier restaurants and shopping malls, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. If you do not want to venture far, Town Brookhaven offers shopping and a variety of restaurants. Brookhaven is in a great location in that it is convenient to Buckhead and Midtown as well as suburbs which include Dunwoody and Sandy Springs. Residents enjoy Little Nancy Creek Park, a newly-acquired five-acre park in addition to Brookhaven Park, a 17-acre park with fields, a basketball court, playground, picnic shelter and walking trails. Residents are invited to join Brookhaven Friends, a volunteer group dedicated to raising funds for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The Historic Brookhaven Neighborhood Association hosts many events throughout the year for residents. A mixture of mansions old and new, Craftsman bungalows and mixed-use developments, many people are proud to call Brookhaven home.

 

Brookhaven was officially founded in 1910 when a group of investors from Mechanical and Manufacturers Club purchased land for the development of Brookhaven Estates. Prior to 1910, the Brookhaven area was home to summer cottages of wealthy Atlantans. Brookhaven is recognized as the first community in Georgia (and possibly the Southeast) to be designed around a golf course and what would become the Capital City Club, one of the nation’s most exclusive country clubs. Both the Capital City Club and Brookhaven Historic District are on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2012, Brookhaven was approved to become a city of Dekalb County.

 

​Dekalb County schools within this district include Ashford Park Elementary, Montclair Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, Woodward Elementary, Kittredge Middle Magnet School, Cross Keys High School, and Chamblee Charter High School. Fulton County schools include Sarah Smith Elementary, Sutton Middle School, and Atlanta High School. Nearby private schools include Marist School, Atlanta International School, Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, and St. Pius X Catholic High School.
